METSATÖLL release new album ‘Aio’ on March 22nd
Estonian epic folk metallers METSATÖLL release new album ‘Aio’ on March 22nd 2010 via Spinefarm Records UK. METSATÖLL, the four-piece outfit from Estonia, have confirmed the March 22nd 2010 release of fourth studio album ‘Aio’ through Spinefarm Records UK, the first time the epic folk metallers have worked with the Spinefarm label. Featuring 14 brand new tracks, all of them delivered in their native tongue, the recordings were conceived in a small farmstead in Hargia, South Estonia; according to the band, this isolated location imbued the music – which aligns traditional folk influences and instrumentation to a more conventional rock attack – with a primal, earthy quality that could never have been achieved in the big city. This epic hybrid style can be heard to good effect on lead track ‘Vaid Vaprust’ (‘Only Bravery’), for which a video based on an Estonian heroic folk tale (‘Suur Tõll’) has just been completed. Mixing, meanwhile, was handled by Finnish producer Mikko Karmila – a man who has previously worked with artists such as Children Of Bodom, Nightwish & Sonata Arctica. METSATÖLL – an ancient Estonian Euphemism for ‘wolf’ – started as a recording outfit back in 1999, since which point the four have racked up 250 shows in Europe and the US, embarked on an extensive 11-country tour of Europe with Finnish ‘battle metallers’ Ensiferum (2009) and collected multiple awards in their home country, consistently topping ‘best band’, ‘best album’ and ‘best DVD’ categories at the annual Estonian Music Awards.
